Modern Languages
Modern Languages are taught by an innovative, dynamic, research-active team of 12 full-time members of staff teaching French and Spanish. It is also possible to study Mandarin Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese and British Sign Language part-time.
Modern Language students at Northumbria University learn in a friendly environment where lecturers are fully committed to helping students achieve their full potential. An excellent support and guidance system is in place. We adopt a communicative approach to language learning and students acquire and develop vocationally relevant language skills. Our Nation Studies programmes focus on the social, political and economic environments of contemporary France, Spain and Europe. Small group teaching enhances students' learning experience. Students are encouraged and supported in the development of key skills, which make Modern Language graduates highly employable.
