Gallery North
The launch of Northumbria's new exhibition space - Gallery North![]() |
The School of Arts & Social Sciences is due to open Gallery
North in October 2008, an important new addition to Newcastle’s burgeoning
art scene. The Gallery plans to offer an exciting programme of art by
emerging home grown talent including staff, researchers and alumni.
This work will also be shown alongside international artists such as
James Hugonin and Sean Scully who will exhibit together as part of the
Gallery’s inaugural exhibition of abstract painting. Gallery North’s
exhibition programme will relate to aspects of teaching within the School
that demonstrate ideas and visual thinking, covering cutting-edge new art
as well as exhibitions of a broader, more historical nature.
The exhibition programme will offer both traditional and contemporary art
that will contribute to the lively dialogue within both the cultural and
academic sectors. It aims to ensure that the excellence of learning
and teaching is exemplified in exhibitions of staff, students and
prestigious alumni.
Gallery North will be located in Squires Building and will support the
culture of the North East and contribute to the energy of artists emerging
from within the region.
A full programme of exhibitions for 2008-09 will be posted shortly.
