By 2050 over 115,000,000 people will be living with dementia...
As the number of people living with dementia increases we ask, ‘how can we help to ensure that a loss of memory doesn’t necessarily mean a loss of self?’
Working with early stage dementia patients we are investigating the importance of creating tangible memories of life stories, treasured relationships and experiences in order to establish strong, external representations of self.
In addition we are exploring ways to embrace a person’s past while reflecting what’s happening to them now, and providing scope for recording new experiences in the future. In this way we hope to create strategies for the ongoing maintenance of personhood in dementia.
But what can you do?
