Our clothes will soon be as smart as our phones...

Before long, intelligent textiles will generate clothes clever enough to allow the wearer to update Facebook, phone a friend, check their emails and watch the news.

But, to make wearable technology a ubiquitous part of our everyday wardrobe, we believe that you need to combine technology with a user-centred approach and design aesthetic. At Northumbria, through our P3i cross disciplinary design making studios we are:

- Identifying trends and creative directions for future fabrics and human centred lifestyle needs

- Determining how new materials, their properties and their fabrication can be brought together in innovative ways for, on and around the body applications
