Visual Communication - Application ProcessApplication Process

Applications for our Visual Communication courses should be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).  Please remember to use the institution code for University of Northumbria, NORTH N77 and the relevant course code which are shown below. 

- Graphic Design : W210 BA/DG
- Interactive Media Design: W280 BA/IMD
- Motion Graphics & Animation Design: WW2P BA/MGA

The close date for applications for these courses is 15th January 2012.

For competitive courses, the Personal Statement can have a significant influence on the outcome of your UCAS application, so it’s worth taking some time over it.  To help you prepare your statement we’ve included some short tips and guidelines in this section.

Interviews

Successful candidates will be invited for interview and asked to bring a portfolio with them. We know interviews can be daunting, so we’ve included some Portfolio Guidelines and Interview Tips in this section to help you prepare and perform to the best your abilities.

:: Graphic Design - For this programme there is an extra stage in the admissions process, candidates who meet the initial selection criteria as identified by the admissions team will be invited to submit an 8 image mini-portfolio online which will be assessed by an admissions panel with regards to their suitability for the programme. Those applicants who are then selected for interview will be asked to bring their full portfolio with them. Interviews will take place between 27th February - 2nd March 2012. There may be other interview dates in March, which are to be confirmed. The Interviews sessions will include a mini tour of the School and a presentation.

:: Interactive Media Design - Interviews will take place between 21st - 25th February 2012. Interview sessions will include a mini tour of the School and a Q&A session. Successful candidates may also be asked on the day to write a short review on a given topic.

:: Motion Graphics & Animation Design - Interviews will take place between the 18th January - 28th March 2012. Interviews sessions will take place on an afternoon and will include a mini tour of the School, introduction of the course with examples of student work, a Q&A session and a talk from current students. Students will also be given a task on the day to work on prior to the interview.
