BioCouture - Imagine if we could grow our own clothes
New research project harnesses nature to propose a radical future fashion vision...
This idea has been brought to reality by Raymond Oliver, Northumbria School of Design’s Professor in Interactive Materials and Suzanne Lee, Research Fellow at Central St. Martins, in a new research project ‘BioCouture’.
BioCouture is a method created by Suzanne for growing clothes from a bacterial/cellulose solution that may be the ultimate eco-friendly operation requiring few environment-taxing resources to produce. Both Raymond and Suzanne believe that the use of bacterial cellulose needn’t stop at fashion; in the future we may be able to produce other products using this method.
