3D Design Graduates clean up at this year’s Design Event Awards

It has been a fantastic year for Northumbria Graduates at the Design Event MART Awards...

Design Event was established in 2005 to support designers across the regions, especially graduates and those at the early-mid stages of their careers. The Design MART is an exhibition showcasing the best in contemporary design from the North of England and follows with an annual award ceremony.

2011 Graduate and current Designer in Residence, Tatsuya Akita won two awards at Design MART in total: ‘Most Forward Thinking Product’ and ‘Best Retail Product’ for his Desk Accessories Range.

Multi award winning Designer, 3D Graduate and previous Designer in Residence David Irwin took home the award for Best Interior Product for his ‘Miners Lamp Design’.

Finally, Hannah Wales, 3D Graduate won the award for ‘Most Innovation Use of Material’ for her Sili Mugs.

The Designers in Residence Scheme at Northumbria School of Design is a post-graduate platform that provides workspace, equipment and on-site mentoring to selected Graduates of BA (Hons) 3D Design. Residents use the scheme to develop and grow their professional practice.

Rickard Whittingham, Programme Leader for 3D Design and Designers in Residence Co-ordinator, when talking of the awards said… “For Designers in Residence and 3D Design Graduates to win all of the awards at Design Event MART this year is testament to both their creativity and enterprise. For Tatusya, David and Hannah to be recognised, given the aim of the MART to showcase the best contemporary design in the North of England, is great news”.
