LUMIERE 2011

The UK's largest light festival returned to Durham last month which showcased two companies set up by Northumbria Design school alumni...

In November 140,000 people took to the streets of Durham to visit LUMIERE 2011, the UK's largest light festival. There were 35 artworks in total and amongst these were two installations by ex students from Northumbria School of Design.

Deadgood Ltd, a Newcastle based Design Studio founded by 3D Design Graduates Elliot Brook and Dan Ziglam showcased 'Rainbow', an optical wonder which shined through the dark November evenings projecting a vibrant and colourful rainbow through the sky.

You can read more about the Deadgood installation and listen to an interview with Elliot and Dan by visiting the LUMIERE website and also the Deadgood blog:

LUMIERE Durham was Deadgood

In addition to Deadgood exhibition, LumaLabs made up of two of our current Designers in Residence Dale Wilson and Richard Burns presented 'The Global Curiosity Shop'. The idea was initially conceived by Paul Goodfellow, Programme Leader of our Motion Graphics & Animation Design degree who then passed the concept onto LumaLabs who designed and built the installation. The Global Curiosity Shop comes alive at night as the interior is animated to tell the story of the global market.

To hear Dale and Richard talk about their installation and to find out more you can visit the LUMIERE website:
