Drawing with Fire
Date: 1st Nov - 10th Nov 2011
Place: School of Design, Northumbria University
Time: 9am - 5pm Mon - Friday
Opening Night Talk: Tuesday 1st November, 6pm
As part of the 2011 International Print Biennale, this exhibition demonstrates and represents some of the interesting and innovative ways in which the laser cutter is being utilised by artists and designers working with paper. Featuring work from national and international artists such as Hyperquake, Ingrid Siliakus and Jenny Smith, the work highlights good practice and how the attributes of a laser cutter can be harnessed in order to produce new works. ‘Drawing with Fire’ has previously been shown at Bower Ashton, UWE Bristol in September 2010, and the AKI/ARTEZ Academy of Art in The Netherlands in January 2011.
Showcasing the best in new British and international printmaking, the 2011 International Print Biennale is an extensive programme of exhibitions, events, activities and an international symposium taking place across Newcastle and the North East. For more information, visit www.internationalprintbiennale.org.uk .
The exhibition is curated by Tom Sowden, and contains work produced during his AHRC funded research project ‘ Paper Models: investigating laser cutting technology to develop new artists' books and paper-based creative practice for arts, crafts and design’. On the opening night, Tom will deliver a talk on new methodologies for artists' creative p
roduction methods and the potential of the laser cutter as a tool for artists. This talk is free to attend but you must register online.
