Roger Penlington, CETL Fellow

Roger Penlington

"I see Assessment for Learning as fostering real engagement between academics and their students, which in turn supports the students in engagement with their own learning."

Career Biography

I am the CETL Fellow in the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences.

Whilst at Northumbria I have undertaken a broad range of roles in module and programme creation, development and leadership. During this work I have always held assessment as a key part of the learning experience and development of a professional engineer. Whilst engaged in the development of engineering education I have maintained my discipline based research and see this as being fundamental in my ability to add authenticity to my teaching. I have undertaken a range of roles within the School and also contributed to the University through committee and enhancement group membership which has developed my interest in interdisciplinary teaching and learning.

I have been awarded a University Teaching Fellowship and I am also an Associate of the HEA Engineering Subject Centre, both of which enable me to make a contribution to the development of teaching and learning both at Northumbria and within the UK.

Contribution to Northumbria and the CETL

I work with the CETL Associates and those undertaking CETL supported projects within CEIS to enable their work to have an impact upon learning across a broad range of subjects.

Through external activity I am able to disseminate ideas and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration supporting the enhancement of teaching and learning.
