Zaid joined Sustainable Cities Research Institute Northumbria University in 2001, having previously worked as Environmental advisor at The Northern Energy Initiative (TNEI). Zaid’s main areas revolve around energy and environmental aspects of sustainable development. Particular interests include applications of low carbon technologies, environmental and energy assessments, and skills development in the energy sector.

Over recent years Zaid has developed and worked on several EU projects based around sustainable development, exchanging best practice and collaboration with academic and industrial bodies throughout the European Union. This included City Modelling, energy inputs and outs, energy use and farming practices and impact on Climate change.

In addition Zaid is involved in lecturing on issues such as energy, skills and sustainable development.

Externally, Zaid is member of IEMA, and a registered Environmental Auditor and currently working to be a BREEAM assessor for Code for Sustainable Homes.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Proposal writing, bidding for regional national and European projects. This includes both research and consultancy work

• Research and consultancy activities, both short term and long term contracts, on various aspects of energy and environmental work

• Teaching on BE0966 module, sustainable development and skills

• Report writing and production of articles for academic and non academic journals
