GO - Catering & Retail Services
GO - Catering & Retail Services are part of Accommodation Services (AS), a department providing central support to the university and it's associated activities. GO is charged with the responsibility of providing a comprehensive catering operation to the university, in addition to retail outlets which provides goods and services to students, staff and visitors. In doing so each activity must cover all associated operating costs, thereby providing an unsubsidised service.
GO operates a number of catering outlets around the university, in addition to providing a comprehensive Hospitality service, catering for outside events and conferences as well as resident student meal packages. The retail part of the operation includes a grocery store on the main city campus, the University Shop, on-line sales, PayPoint facilities and a sales outlet at Coach Lane campus.
The Way We Work
All of our branded sandwiches and meals are made on site using the skills and experience of our staff. Wherever possible we source locally, promote FAIRTRADE products and develop menus to reflect the tastes of our customers, balancing firm favourites with new introductions.Wherever possible we support the ethos of sustainability and participate in university activities which reduce carbon emissions, improve energy consumption and highlight our environmental responsibilities.
We also listen carefully to customer feedback, particularly on preferences, and changing trends. If you wish to express your views on the service that you receive, please ask for a Customer Comment Form from a member of staff, download from this webpage or e-mail us.
Catering & Retail Services are supporting the University’s application to achieve FAIRTRADE status, in doing so we will be providing FAIRTRADE Tea and Coffee to all delivered Hospitality from now on.
Our retail outlets stock a range of FairTrade hoodies supplied by Epona. The cotton for the FAIRTRADE hoodies is produced in the Utter Pradesh region of India .
We currently check that all the clothing supplied to the retail outlets is ethically produced – and all factories are WRAP approved (this organisation checks individual factories to check workforces are treat well and children are not used).
Other FAIRTRADE products will be introduced as the programme develops.
We are also phasing in changes to the office based beverage systems to Kenco Singles whose products support the Rainforest Alliance.
