Learning and Teaching Academy

The Learning & Teaching Academy is here to support learning, teaching, assessment and the student experience across the University.

We engage staff in developing and innovating in their teaching, build staff networks and draw on expertise wherever it is located – in Schools, in the Learning & Teaching Academy hub and externally.

We engage students in enhancing learning though innovative activities such as peer mentoring and through student consultation and representation.

We engage with the context for learning and teaching through supporting institutional plans and engaging in key committees.

The main activities of the Learning & Teaching Academy are:

  • Supporting the University’s corporate strategy and especially plans for learning and teaching - core themes
  • Conferences and seminars
  • Professional development – a PG Certificate for staff new to teaching in HE; modules and awards up to Master’s level for experienced staff; HEA/National Teaching Fellowship Status; internal promotion schemes
  • Learning technologies including support for Blackboard, classroom technologies, production of materials for blended or distance learning, advice and training
  • Pedagogic research and development projects - small grants, research networks, research tools, support in research design, internal  and external publication and presentation
  • Student engagement – volunteering activities (Global Citizenship); peer mentoring and staff-student research and conferences; Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL)
