EMERGE

Calling all EMERGE-ing Authors in Teaching, Learning and Assessment.

In 2009, Northumbria University launched  EMERGE, a, web-based, peer reviewed journal.  EMERGE began its life as an internal and external platform for scholarly publication by Northumbria's staff.  However, we are pleased to report that the journal now accepts submissions from across the North East Region. particularly the Universities which form part of the 3 Rivers consortium (Northumbria, Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside). The journal is devoted to the dissemination of learner support, academic practice development and pedagogic enquiry. A broad subject spectrum is welcomed but the main theme of the manuscripts should be principally rooted within scholarly teaching, learning and assessment practice.

There are four alternative forms of submission, one of which is an open category which has been designed for student authorship or staff-student co-authorship.

  • Articles normally 4000-6000 word manuscripts (including references) in the form of empirical research papers, literature reviews, case studies, methodological case studies, action research or critical evaluations.
  • Research Briefs up to 2500 words (including references), which are shorter commentaries outlining scholarly activity in progress.
  • Open X Change are 1000-2000 words (including references)  reflective commentaries of teaching and learning developments within a discipline or debates about contemporary issues within education.
  • Student Voice up to 5000 words (including references) a category of submiaaion which requires student authorship or staff-student co-authorship, generally presented in one of the above formats.
