Taxi Guidelines
The Estates Department administer the University's central taxi account and will pay all invoices for University use on behalf of Schools and Service departments. If you book taxis for yourself, staff or guests you should take the following into account.
Is the journey really needed?
- Often journeys of around a mile or so (particularly in the City Centre) can be quicker done on foot if you have nothing too heavy to carry.
- Some journeys for meetings off campus may have staff already travelling in a taxi, so please check if possible with colleagues before ordering a taxi and share where possible.
- Is the meeting is on, i.e. did you check before ordering a taxi?
- Is there a chance you can take the free staff bus (this helps significantly over a year on reducing vehicle emissions).
- If there are a number of passengers, can the University’s central transport service offer assistance rather than booking a number of taxis?
- Always allow for delays if you are booking at peak times, particularly if you are catching a train.
- Always wear your seat belt for the journey.
- Always sign for the exact fare indicated on the meter.
- Do not give tips on the account.
- If you require a certain type of vehicle, people carrier or wheelchair access please book in plenty of time.
- You should not give your account number out to anyone other than those that need it.
- All journeys undertaken on your account will be charged.
