Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

Specific legislation applies to the use of materials and chemicals in the University, requiring that before a substance hazardous to health is used, a full assessment must be made of the risks to health and the necessary precautions to be taken.

In order to comply with these regulations Faculties and Central Departments must hold an up to date inventory of all substances in use and a health and safety hazard data sheet for each substance. The data sheet will indicate those substances hazardous to health for which an assessment must be made and also the recommended protective measures which must be taken.

Advice and assistance with assessments may be obtained from the Health and Safety Office.
