Health and Safety Policy Statement

Board of Governors’ Policy

As the employer, the Board of Governors accepts ultimate responsibility for health and safety and is committed to ensuring that these responsibilities are fully discharged throughout the University. The Board considers health and safety to be a core management function and therefore will ensure that the necessary resources are available to implement the policy successfully. This includes ensuring that the policy is communicated effectively and that staff are competent to fulfil their health and safety roles.

The University is committed to achieving a measurable, progressive improvement in health and safety performance, with legal requirements establishing a minimum acceptable level.

The Board of Governors accept that successful health and safety management can only be achieved through planning, and that the policy must be regularly reviewed and developed. It acknowledges that the primary responsibility for implementing the policy lies with Senior Managers and that all staff have an important contribution to make.
