Cycling to Northumbria
Cycling is both a great way to help the
environment and take part in healthy exercise. More and more cycle
lanes are being introduced to the area and the University’s current
provision of over 300 cycle parking stands is to be increased and
improved during 2006 and 2007.
If you have any problems with cycling to and from campus or parking your bike on campus report them to your Student Union representative or any member of staff who can contact the University’s Travel Planner. The Travel Planner meets with the local Council and will take up cyclists concerns directly with them.
Good practice:
- Get some training if you are new to cycling - contact local council for advice
- Be seen – wear a hi visibility vest and use lights when dark
- Wear a helmet
- Always lock your bike and remove the lights when parked at University
- Cycle with a friend – though always in single file
- Keep your bike well maintained – it’s far easier to cycle on a well maintained bike
