Insurance

Northumbria University's insurance brokers are Robertson McIsaac & our insurance agents are Royal & SunAlliance.

Role

The section handles all work related insurance matters on behalf of the University as well as its Staff. These include employee liability, public liability, motor, travel, laptops, property and professional indemnity cases as follows: 

 

Employers Liability

Injury or illness to either a current or former employee which may result in a claim against the University should be reported to the individuals’ solicitors who should be instructed to put the claim in writing to Kevin White or email to fi.insurance@northumbria.ac.uk.

Public Liability

Injury or loss sustained by a member of the public whilst on University property should be reported to the individuals’ solicitors who should be instructed to put the claim in writing to Kevin White or email to fi.insurance@northumbria.ac.uk.

Motor Claims

Any staff who have an accident or have damaged hire vehicles supplied through the University should complete the Motor Vehicle Claim Form and forward it to fi.insurance@northumbria.ac.uk.

Travel Claims

Any employee or student who is travelling in officially sanctioned University business who suffers injury, loss or delay should complete the Travel Claim Form and forward to fi.insurance@northumbria.ac.uk. Please note that all overseas travel outside of the EEC should be reported in a timely manner prior to travelling in order to assess the Insurance risk involved, failure to do so could result in a lack of cover and all the attendant risks.

Laptops

Any theft, loss or damage to one of the Universities laptops must be reported immediately to fi.insurance@northumbria.ac.uk quoting the serial number of the machine involved. There is only a 28 day window on our insurance policy to make a claim after that has elapsed we will be unable to replace the machine.

Property

Damage to University buildings and equipment is to be reported on the Property Claim Form and forwarded to fi.insurance@northumbria.ac.uk.

Professional Indemnity

Any University staff participating in lectures or seminars in the United States of America, dependencies including protectorates and Canada must email fi.insurance@northumbria.ac.uk with their intent to do so, they will be covered by the Professional Indemnity insurance policy and must notify us of any claims they receive.
