Grading of Posts using HERA

All roles at Northumbria are evaluated by the Higher Education Role Analysis (HERA) framework.

There is one of two processes to be followed for evaluating posts.

Process 1 - Management requests for role analysis

This process is for managers who request an evaluation of a:

  • New Post - where the post does not fit to any existing role profile
  • Vacant Post - where prior to recruitment the post has been reviewed and the duties and responsibilities significantly revised, or
  • Existing Post - where the manager has significantly increased the level of duties and responsibilities required of the current role holder.

Process 2 - Occupied Posts

Any member of staff who feels that their duties and responsibilities have changed sufficiently to warrant a higher grading must register their request for a re-evaluation in writing with the Director of HR via their HR Manager.  A full role analysis will then be undertaken by the HR Department.

Re-evaluations take place on 1st April or 1st October each year and any requests will be held as pending until then.

 

In order to progress either re-evaluation, please read the Grading of Posts policy and complete the relevant forms.
