The Academic Promotions Scheme sets out the process for the award of Professorships, Readership, Enterprise Fellowships and Teaching Fellowships, details of how to apply and the promotions criteria.  The details can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Related Documents’ links shown below.

Readership and Fellowship

The procedure includes a School Appointments Board, chaired by a Dean of School. The School Appointments Board will be responsible for assessing each application against the criteria for promotion and deciding whether to recommend your application for promotion to the University Appointments Board.  The School Appointments Board will consider your application, initially at a shortlist meeting.  If your application is shortlisted, external references will be called for and these will be considered together with your application at the final Board.

Professor

Applications for Professor should be submitted to Human Resources who will request a report from your line manager (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dean or Director), as appropriate. The University Appointments Board will consider your application and line manager's report initially, at a shortlist meeting.  If your application is shortlisted, external references will be called for and these will be considered together with your application at the final Board.
