Salaries

As part of Pay Modernisation, within the national pay framework, Northumbria University developed an innovative pay structure of:
  • Eight shorter grades with larger incremental increases, of around 4%, than the national pay spine - which means there is quicker progression to the top of the scale. (Grade 9 falls outside of the national pay framework).
  • All increments relate to service - they are not performance related, (although there is an additional increment at the top of Grade 8, which is payable subject to confirmation of satisfactory performance).
  • No single point salaries, meaning all staff can progress up the pay scale.
  • We guarantee to implement national cost of living increases and the salary structure will always be equal to or better than any revisions in the national pay spine.
