Special Collections

Special Collections are defined as those collections of library materials which, by virtue of their physical form, content or depth of subject coverage are distinguished from the general stock of the University Library. The Special Collections Policy provides information about the formation and acquisition of such collections.

Staff, students and visitors are welcome to consult the University Library’s Special Collections described below. Visitors are advised to read information about using the University Library before they arrive.

Please note the access arrangements for the individual collections.

  • Open Access collections are interfiled at the appropriate class mark within the general bookstock. In some cases these items may also be loanable to Library members. Help and support in using this material is available from all Library enquiry points or by contacting Ask4Help.
  • Closed Access collections may require up to one weeks’ notice to retrieve the material from our secure storage. Valuable and fragile material may require specialist viewing equipment or supervised access and for this reason you are asked to contact the Library Liaison Advisers to discuss your requirements in advance of your visit.
