Marketing and Recruitment

Marketing and Recruitment is responsible for education liaison; advertising, initial enquiries and direct marketing; market research, admissions and the Return to Learning Service. Our role includes not only the responsibility to lead University activity in these areas, it is also to support University Schools in the development of their own marketing activity to ensure that it is both consistent with corporate strategies and is coordinated to ensure maximum benefit for the University. Our Admissions Team specialise in assisting prospective and actual applicants and work closely with Schools to ensure the efficient processing of all applications.

We cover a broad range of responsibilities as we implement corporate advertising and direct marketing strategies; support Schools to achieve their marketing objectives and deliver an excellent initial enquiry/prospectus request service.

We:

  • Coordinate all University advertising - generic, course specific and staff recruitment.
  • Process all UCAS applications and offer a centralised applications system for non-clearing house programmes.
  • Provide an 'agency' service to aid Schools and University Services in the production of advertising and other promotional material and campaigns.
  • Organise open events for part-time and postgraduate study.
  • Control the handling, data collection, fulfilment and follow-up of initial enquiries/prospectus requests.
  • Organise major promotional campaigns.
  • Develop and implement direct marketing activity designed to build relationships with potential students.
  • Provide copywriting advice and support for advertising, leaflets and other promotional material.
  • Produce four issues of 'Flavour' - our newsletter for prospective undergraduate students.

Market Research

Research plays a central and increasingly important role in the development of our marketing activity and the range of services that we offer to our customers. Projects are initiated on a University-wide basis but are carried out in conjunction with Schools and University Services as appropriate.

Research areas include:

  • Branding strategy and awareness
  • Market positioning
  • New product development
  • Customer service
  • Stakeholder influences
  • Student decision-making.
