Northumbria Students attend ITMB event

The ITMB degree is a unique programme which is only offered by 12 universities in the UK. It is the first IT undergraduate degree to be made up of learning outcomes specified by blue-chip companies such as BBC, BT, Ford, HP, ITV, Morgan Stanley, Proctor and Gamble and IBM in order to ensure that graduates are leaving university with the skills and abilities they need to excel in and lead the industry in the future.

As part of the course there is a lot of involvement between the students and the employers including fortnightly lectures within 1 of the various universities, which are then broadcast among the other 11. This also includes the event, which occurs twice a year and allows ITMB students to network not only with each other but with employers too. As part of this recent event students were involved in various competitions, heard from business speakers, took part in team activities that would form part of an assessment day for a graduate or placement job and had the chance to ask questions of the employers.

Northumbria graduate Vijay Varghese attended the event as part of his role with software company Symantec, he told Flavour, “In today’s job market, with fierce competition for graduate jobs, studying the ITMB degree at Northumbria, and the level of employer engagement it provided from day one, was crucial in not only developing the skill set desired by top employers but through the ITMB community, helping me land a job interview with a great employer like Symantec.”

The success and value of the ITMB course is demonstrated through the high number of employers, who now specify that they are looking for ITMB graduates, or like IBM, automatically pass ITMB graduates to the second stages of the recruitment process.
