Plastic Fantastic inventions from the School of Design

Congratulations to Russell Tuit and Bumki Cho, two Design for Industry students who have been awarded second and third place in a national design competition.

Plastic Fantastic inventions from the School of Design

Russell came in second place with his ‘Little Helper’ design. This device, which attaches to the front of a shopping trolley, is an electronic toy used to keep children entertained in supermarkets by quizzing the child on shopping list items. This increases a child’s knowledge base whilst keeping them entertained, the idea can be developed further for older children, where the product doubles as a shopping list display, allowing them to find items for the parent.

Russell’s success earned him a cash prize of £500 and a placement with DuPont in Geneva.

Bumki’s design came in third place with the ‘Guardian Angel’, which sets out to minimise the risk of thefts of bags and wallets from cafes and restaurants. It features a barrier at the back to lock coats in place and features wings at the side of the chair to which bags can be locked.

Bumki won £250 and a placement at PDD in London.
