Community

Northumbria University is committed to supporting its local community. The University has campuses in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, and at Coach Lane, a more suburban area of Newcastle, just three miles from the city centre.

With over 33,000 students and 3,100 members of staff, Northumbria is an integral part of the city and community and strives to make a positive contribution to the North East in a variety of ways. These range from local community based volunteering projects to our public lecture series which brings a diverse range of high profile speakers to the city.

We are continually striving to enhance relationships with the local community and are proud of the positive economic, social and cultural contribution Northumbria makes to the region. The University also works closely with local businesses to develop the region's economy and to bring professional skills and employment to the North East.

We recognise that, as one of the region's major employers and the largest university in the North East, we have a significant impact upon our local neighbourhood. We are committed to acting as a good neighbour and ensuring that, wherever possible, our activities are undertaken with due consideration for local residents. This is a responsibility we take very seriously and more information can be found on our Community Cohesion and Environmental Management pages.

If you have any news, feedback or concerns regarding the University and your community, please contact Anna Scott, External Engagement Officer.
