Research and Business Services
Research and Business Services is a specialist department supporting the creation of knowledge within the University and applying that knowledge to meet the needs of society.
Research and Business Services provides a single channel for supporting research and innovation across the University, creating an environment that enables these activities to flourish and facilitating inter-disciplinary collaboration across the University.
The departmental structure comprises four strands of core activity:
- Research Support
- The Graduate School
- Innovation and Services to Business
- Work Related Learning Services
Northumbria's academics have a great depth of experience in providing practical, relevant and innovative solutions to a diverse range of clients and partners. Research and Business Services ensures that the University adopts a coherent, professional, client-focused approach to working with external organisations in a wide variety of activity, such as:
- Collaborative and Contract Research
- Knowledge Transfer Partnerships
- Consultancy
- Commercialisation - identifying, evaluating, protecting and commercialising the research conducted by Northumbria's academics
Increasingly, university research is focused on larger, more strategic and collaborative projects addressing the needs of society and global challenges, both between universities and with non-academic users of research results in society. Research and Business Services helps to maintain and develop Northumbria's external networks to support research, building partnerships with universities, governmental bodies and business in the UK, Europe and elsewhere in the world.
