Outgoing Students

EU FlagThe Erasmus programme offers students an opportunity to undertake a period of study and/or work abroad (minimum 3 months, maximum 12 months) in another EU, EEA or ‘partner’ state and for that study/work placement to be recognised as an integral part of their programme of study at the home university.

The Erasmus programme provides grants to contribute to the extra costs involved.

Language need not be a barrier to studying abroad; many of our partners teach courses and in some cases whole programmes in English.  Whilst abroad, there would usually be an opportunity to learn about the culture and get an introduction to the host language as part of the experience.  Please check our partner university websites for the most up-to-date information.

For Northumbria Erasmus students going abroad to study or work during 2011/2012, the initial grant rate for 10/11 is 225 EUR per month, for the number of months abroad (for example; the initial grant rate for a student abroad for 10 months would be 2250 EUR, ie 225 EUR x 10 months).

It is hoped that there will be a second allocation, funds permitting, although details will not be known until later during Semester 2.  In the meantime, as a guide, Erasmus students during 2010/2011 received an initial grant of 225 EUR and a second allocation based on 153 EUR per month, therefore a total monthly rate of 378 EUR
