Chickenpox outbreak (posted 03/05/13)
If you develop any of these symptoms, we would encourage you to visit your doctor/GP for advice. Your GP will be able to offer further advice, including advice on how to minimise contact with other people, to avoid passing on the infection. More information about the location of GP practices is available at http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/static/5007/sspdf/welint/khks.pdf
Symptoms of chickenpox can include:
- mild headache or fever
- loss of appetite and a general feeling of being unwell
- coughing or sneezing
- a small, flat rash with red spots, which can be itchy and vary in size - usually starting on the face and scalp.
If you haven’t had chickenpox before (or you’re not sure whether you’ve had it before or not) and if you have a weakened immune system or if you are pregnant, in these circumstances we would advise you to contact your GP straightaway even if you do not display the above symptoms. Your GP will then be able to advise you, and, if appropriate, check whether you are already immune to chickenpox.
If you have any questions, please contact us in Student Support and Wellbeing www.northumbria.ac.uk
