Right to work in the UK (all students)

Many students work while studying, this can be part-time, casual and/or vacation work.  The University strongly recommends that full-time students work no more than 16 hours per week during term time.  Any students employed by the University will be for 16 hours or less.

All nationals, including those from the UK, need to prove their right to work in line with the "Prevention of Illegal Working, Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006".  To do this you need to show specific documents to your employer before you start work.  Acceptable documents include a valid, in-date passport (and visa where applicable) or a full birth certificate and an offical document showing your national insurance number.  Please note a driving licence is specifically prohibited under the Act of Parliament.

Restrictions apply to nationals from specific countries please see link below for futher details.
