Campus Developments at Northumbria
Northumbria University has two campuses in Newcastle upon Tyne.
City Campus is situated in the heart of the city and Coach Lane Campus
which is just three miles from the city centre in the leafy suburbs of
Newcastle.
City Campus
Divided into City Campus East and City Campus West by the city motorway,
City Campus houses most of Northumbria’s 31,500 students. The two parts of the
City Campus are linked by a £4million new bridge which was officially opened in
2008 by The Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Digby Jones.
City Campus East
The newest part of Northumbria’s City Campus, City Campus east is home to
the schools of Law, Design and the Newcastle Business School (NBS). NBS and Law
are housed in one building while the School of Design is across a courtyard.
City Campus East has already become a Newcastle landmark since opening in
September 2007, winning awards from The Journal newspaper and the Low
Carbon New Build Project of the Year.
City Campus West
Work is now underway across City Campus West to develop the existing
facilities and build a new state-of-the-art sports centre. To link the two
halves of the City Campus, Ellison Quadrangle was opened up and re-landscaped,
this attractive new area now links the new development to the existing campus
and provides a glimpse of what City Campus West will look like when
improvements have been completed.
Coach Lane Campus
Plans to potentially sell the land at Coach Lane West and further develop
the modern Coach Lane East to enable the School of Health, Community and
Education Studies to be housed on one consolidated site are currently under
discussion.
