Gallery Archive - NEW PAINTING From the Arts Council Collection 04 February 1995 - 10 March 1995

Details:
'New Painting' is an exhibition of new work by artists mainly painting in non-figurative ways, representing a fresh gathering of resources and a reassessment of possibilities within the rich tradition of the medium.

Many preoccupations here, stem from innovations of the 1960's, when artists turned from the world of representation and sought to make work which existed for and by itself alone. These paintings, however, reflect the concerns of a younger generation as well as new developments by more established painters.

Artists included are Maria Chevska, Mikey Cuddihy, Peter Doig, Callum Innes, Derek Jarman, Peter Joseph, Maria Lalic, Thomas Lawson, David Leapman, Nicholas May, John Murphy, Fiona Rae and Yuko Shiraishi.
