An exhibition of contemporary drawings by twenty artists. The title of this exhibition means exactly what it says. This is drawing which is active and alive: "direct and full-blooded", as John Clark says, who chose the work. In these drawings there is that synchronised relationship of hand, eye, brain and feeling which is what Clark means when he talks about drawing as, "a way of thinking", rather than as a method of depiction. Here we can see artists putting down their perceptions in graphic marks, modifying them again and again until a taut scaffolding emerges.
