Exhibition Detail
backGallery Archive - NINE FROM TORONTO 24 August 1990 - 28 September 1990
Details:
Three years ago, a group of independent artists living and working in the region collaborated to form an exhibition titled 'Nine from Newcastle' which travelled to Europe, America and ended its tour in Canada at the University of York, in Toronto. This initiative has subsequently formed the basis of regular international exchanges, for artists and students, between the Polytechnic's Faculty of Art & Design and other major educational institutions abroad. The most recent development of this enterprise is the launch of the exhibition 'Carrier Pigeon', at the Polytechnic Gallery. Eight professional artists, mostly based in Toronto, will have access to the Faculty's studios and facilities during the academic vacation to prepare work for the show and in a few cases, specifically to respond to living in the North East of England. Judith Swartz, Bruce Parsons, Fred Gaysek, Michael Davey, Vera Frenkel, Janet Jones, Lee Paquette, Renee van Halm and Michael Fernandez will show sculpture, paintings and installations at the Polytechnic Gallery.
