Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Planning)
Professor Ian Postlethwaite BSc(Eng) PhD FREng FIEEE FIET FInstMC

Professor Ian Postlethwaite joined Northumbria University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Strategic Planning in January 2010. He has responsibility for the development and implementation of plans further to establish Northumbria as a leading research-engaged, business-focused university.
Formerly Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at The University of Leicester, Professor Postlethwaite has worked previously at Oxford University, and studied at Imperial College London and Cambridge University.
His field of academic research is control engineering, and he has held visiting research positions at the University of California at Berkeley and the Australian National University, and in 2009 undertook study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Professor Postlethwaite is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a former member of the National Advisory Committee on Avionics and Flight Systems, and currently serves on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Engineering Strategic Advisory Team.
