Practice Education for Social Workers (Stage 1 PEPS)
This module offers registered social workers the opportunity to enhance their professional development and career prospects by qualifying as a Stage One Practice Educator.
Learning will focus on the values, skills and knowledge needed to work with a learner in practice, and to meet the Practice Educator Standards for social work. These will include planning for learning, enabling learning and development, managing complex dilemmas and assessment of the capability to enter qualifying social work practice.
The opportunities for learning includes a number of days of lectures and seminars, as well as directed study and working with a social work student in the practice setting. Peer and tutor formative feedback will be offered during interactive taught sessions. Summative assessment will require verification of achieving educational standards in practice and a 3000-word written assignment that encourages students to reflect on a challenge they have experienced in their role as an educator in practice
You will learn by way of a combination of lectures, group work, face to face tutorials, workshops during study days, directed learning supported by the ELP and by way of supporting, teaching and assessing a learner in practice. The demonstration of Practice Educator Standards will provide a focus for the learning activities. Study days are spread across the academic year in order, where possible, to offer you both theoretical and peer support while you work with a learner in practice. Assessment or verification of practice skills will be undertaken by a relevant professional.
