Migration & Inclusive Development

The relationship between migration and development is now a key area of global, national and regional policy making and migration and development governance, as well as a focus of academic research.

Within the areas of work in the Centre for International Development, the British Academy-funded project 'International Migration and Inclusive Development in India' is an example of research informed by a number of academic studies which emphasise the complexity and ambiguity, and call for more nuanced analyses, of the Indian international migration-development nexus. While dominant discourses within academic and policy discussions tend to celebrate the progressive relationship between Indian migrant transnationalism, the project was focused around a series of workshops across the UK, involving though-leaders in this subject area. Details can be found below:

  • Workshop 1: Gender, Migration and Development in India. Further information on the workshop available here.
  • Workshop 2: Indian Transnationalism, Caste and Regional Inequality. Further information on the workshop available here.
  • Workshop 3: Labour and Skill Mobility From and to India: Contemporary Practice and Governance. Further information on the workshop available here.
