Richard Baker

North East Local Enterprise Partnership, Head of Strategy and Policy

Richard leads on the ongoing development of the North East Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) and the North East LEPs strategy, public policy and research activities. He is leading the process of developing the North East Local industrial Strategy with North East partners and Government.

He is Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Business and Law at Northumbria University, a Fellow of the Regional Studies Association and a member of the Chartered Management Institute. He is a graduate of the University of Sheffield and holds an MBA from Sheffield Business School.

Prior to joining the North East LEP, Richard has worked on regional economic development projects with the OECD, the Core Cities network and a number of other organisations. As an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Public Policy Research, he has published a number of reports for IPPR North.

Previous roles include Head of Policy and Research for the Northern Way, and work nationally and internationally for Age Concern England on policy and legal responses to the implications of ageing populations.
