Law Student Support Team

The Law School’s Student Support Team is here to help – Just Ask

Our Student Support Team can assist you with the following:

If you have a timetabling query, please contact the team and they will do their best to help but please be aware that once timetables are published it is seldom possible to make changes unless the reason for doing so is exceptional.

Programme / Assessment Matters

You should also contact the team if you need assistance regarding the following matters:

Extensions for assessed coursework/assignments – if you think you need extra time to complete a piece of coursework.  You must have a valid reason for this that can be supported by evidence.

Deferrals – Exceptionally, there may be times when you are unable to complete a piece of coursework or to attend an examination due to personal extenuating circumstances and it may be possible to defer the assessment to the next sitting.  You should contact the team for advice as soon as you are aware that there may be a problem and, in all cases before the assessment takes place.

Personal Extenuating Circumstances (PECs) – Personal extenuating circumstances forms must be submitted in writing following publicised procedures.  Guidance is available in General Information > Academic Links > Assessment Regulations: Student Guidance section of MyNorthumbria.  Appropriate medical certification or other relevant documentary evidence must be provided.  Please contact the team if you need assistance.

Change of Circumstances - Ifyou are part way through one of your years of study and you need to speak to someone about interrupting the year and returning the following September to restart the year, if you wish to repeat a year of study or if you are considering withdrawing from the programme you must contact your year director or programme leader.

Please note that the student support team continues to deal with attendance monitoring and so if you are unable to attend University and you miss one or more timetabled sessions, it is essential that you contact the team to inform them of your absence and the reason for it so they can keep attendance records up to date.
