I wanted to do something that would make a difference and support children to achieve their pull potential. I completed a BSc Sociology course and MA Criminology and Criminal Justice course at Northumbria, then a PGCE to go on to qualify as a teacher.

I am currently teaching Year 5 in a lovely school in Darlington.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

The friendly atmosphere and support. As well as being in a great city that was not too far from home.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

A mixture of lectures and seminars. The feedback was constructive and supportive of learning and progression.

If you took on a placement during your course how did you feel this helped you in your career/ with your studies?

I did a volunteering placement which was really interesting but not related to my current job.

What was the best thing about your course?

The people I met who are friends for life and also applying terminology now to teaching.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

It is a well-known and respected university and therefore people want to know about my time at Northumbria.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Determination, commitment and perseverance.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

The people I met and the friends I made.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

Do it! It’s a wonderful university. But also get involved do as much as you can and enjoy every moment.
