Linh My Cat

Career Path: Marketing, Dell EMC
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

I am a master student for 2 years in Northumbria uni. Before I started to study, I work as a part-time job for selling milk tea in Vietnam and I realised that marketing industry is really interesting because based on that, customer will know more about your milk-tea brand and come to buy a lot. I chose 2 years for master because in the 2nd year, I can do internship to have more experience about the marketing field. In 3 months of this placement, I know what skills and knowledge I need to hone and know more about the professional working environment. I know I need to improve my soft skill such as communication and team work and have to practice more about the writing content or running ads because nowadays, it is really important to advertise any kind of products.

Linh My CatWhat are you doing now?:

I'm still continuing to study the last year of master and doing dissertation.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?:

Northumbria Uni has good environment to study. I studied the final year of undergraduate with some other my friends and got the 2.1 certification for a marketing course. Then I decided to study master for 2 years because I knew this uni has 2 choices of master between 1 and 2 years. It was a great opportunity to choose because I can participate lots of activities and practice more skills like internship. Moreover, about Newcastle city, I have great memories and feel relax because it has so many nice places and beautiful artworks to hang around.

What was it like studying at Northumbria? (eg. were there a mix of lectures, seminars, team projects? Was the feedback constructive?):

Studying between undergraduate and master is really different in Northumbria. For a master, we have so many classes everyday in the morning to evening and we have only few hours to break.

How connected was your course with industry? (eg. did you have a placement, work on projects? were there interesting guest lectures?):

Thanks to internship, I had the actual work and duties that I need to do to complete and try to get the job done in real working environment.

If you took on a placement during your course how did you feel this helped you in your career/ with your studies?:

It helped me a lot because based on this internship, I know what I need to do in my future career, gain some skills and try to prepare better and better. Also, thanks to this course I am studying now, I can apply to the work in the good way such as I can understand the self-development and ethical awareness about different culture while I worked with my colleagues in international company.

What was the best thing about your course?:

Achieved a lot of knowledge about the thing I like, marketing and business.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?:

Based on different module I studied in this course, it helped me a lot. for example, they teach me how to create a website, dashboard and team work skills.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?:

Team work is the most important when I worked as a marketing supporter in internship.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?:

Every time after finishing assignments and submitting it ;)

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?:

Best university in the nicest city in UK ;)

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?:

Fun, Stress, Relax
