Career Path: Staff Nurse, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital Trust

I decided that I wanted to further my career and be able to contribute more of my knowledge and skills. To progress, I decided to speak to my manager and enrol at Northumbria University with the help of our Trust. I managed my time to study and in 2018 I have successfully completed my course. Now I have a new job and I am on my way to fulfilling my goals.

Now I am employed at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital Trust as an infection control surveillance nurse.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

I was one of the best universities in the country. The programmes are very good and the University is easily accessible either via public or private transport.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

Very constructive feedback, lectures are very supportive and students get involved in different activities. It's fun studying here.

How connected was your course with industry?

My course worked well with my Trust and gave me valuable experience to work in the NHS.

What was the best thing about your course?

It focuses on helping us to achieve our goals on improving patient care. Empowering the mind.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

I am now more equipped with knowledge and I am much more confident in what I do.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

I learned about leadership skills and attitude. I understand the difference between my colleagues and myself.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Almost all of it. e.g. group work, coming to the campus and meeting new friends.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

Just enjoy it, do your best to study hard and you will achieve your goals. At Northumbria University they care for us.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Fun challenging exciting.
