Katrin Hulme

MSc Health Psychology Katrin HulmeI initially started full-time but changed to part-time due to sporting commitments and as this also allowed me to do an internship at a local hospital. This then led to a part-time post that I took on whilst finishing my MSc thesis.

What are you doing now?

I work in the King's Health Psychology Section and am designing an intervention for fatigue management.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

Once I had decided Health Psychology was for me, I researched the courses available and Northumbria Uni seemed like the best fit, especially as it allowed me to continue playing basketball to fund my studies.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

The course was brilliant - lectures were really interesting, lecturers were very enthusiastic and helpful, my classmates were awesome - I enjoyed it a lot.

What impressed you most about our academic staff?

They were obviously experts in each of their specialisms, but also that they were very approachable.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/give your career an edge?

I think the course empowered me to set my targets high: staff were more than happy to chat about my ideas and give me feedback when I asked for their thoughts about things to do next.

What was the best thing about your course?

I think the all round nature of it: interesting lectures (i.e. content), great staff, great facilities.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Critical writing and framing research as a story

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

The ability for me to marry basketball and academic excellence.

What advice would you give somebody who is thinking of studying at Northumbria?

You get out of it what you put in.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in 3 words?

Great career foundation
