Career Path: General Manager, Chooky's Pub & Pantry
Location: Wellington, New Zealand

I originally wanted to back-pack and go travelling after finishing my degree but I found that I loved being in New Zealand and loved being in the hospitality world. I enjoy giving excellent hospitality & great experience to every customer that walks in the bar. starting out as a waitress and making my way up to General Manager has be the most rewarding thing New Zealand has given me.

I am the General Manager of a Pub & Pantry in Wellington, and I am applying for residency here too.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

Northumbria offered the best course that fitted what I wanted to achieve in the future, as well as the many opportunities that the Students' Union offered for my experience at Northumbria.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

No two days where the same at Northumbria, you may have had the same timetable for the semester but nothing was ever the same and there was always something new and exciting to learn or debate about.

What was the best thing about your course?

The support system I received from not only my tutors but other peers within the Business and Law school.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

It gave me the confidence and knowledge that I needed to progress my career and be the leader I never thought I would be.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Leadership, management, negotiation & persistence.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

It may be scary at first and you may not feel ready but is anyone? Take each day as it comes, always ask questions no matter how silly they may be. The tutors are always there for you and never feel like you are alone because everyone is in the same boat.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?:

Best. Experience. Ever.
