Why did you decide to study Fashion Communication at Northumbria?

I studied both Fashion Design before moving on to study Media Studies. I knew I didn't want to continue higher education with the individual subjects, so blending them both together led me on to Fashion Communication.

What are the most useful skills that Fashion Communication taught you?

Communication, professionalism, maturity/self-confidence

Did you get any work experience / internships while studying?

Throughout my studies, I worked freelance for numerous brands, events and companies - this developed my freelance roles which I still have on-going now.

What is the one piece of advice you would give this year’s graduates?

Stop stressing about what's been done/made or created in the past or what others around you are doing - everyone is on their own journey and the only person you should be competing with is yourself to be and get better. The more time you spend worrying and looking around at what others are doing or have done is wasted time and energy which could be spent on discovering something new about yourself. (That’s probably one for the other years in general).

Get out and don't look at your phones too much it takes away the elements of discovery. Loneliness, uncertainty, and boredom. Those have always been where creative ideas come from, ENJOY IT. Enjoy FMP, enjoy creating portfolios and enjoy GFW. Give everything you can and once this is done it is the time to enjoy your final weeks and months. It's about to be the rest of your life so take some time to breathe, enjoy creating things without boundaries and enjoy the free time. Finally, the best advice: leave things better than you found them.

Describe Fashion Communication in three words:

Future, change and unforgettable
