Career Path: Teacher
Location: Northumberland, UK

I have been a teacher for 27 years since I graduated. In that time, I have worked in 4 different schools including 2 middle schools, a prep school in London and now in a secondary school in Northumberland.

What are you doing now?

I am a science teacher in a secondary school. 

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

The good reputation of the Universrsity and its teacher training degree.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?  

There were lectures, seminars and lots of placement experience in a range of schools

How connected was your course with industry?

My degree was perfect for my career

If you took on a placement during your course how did you feel this helped you in your career/ with your studies?:

The placements were excellent for experiences what it was like to be a teacher

What was the best thing about your course?

Good relationships with lecturers and also placement experience

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Planning and managing workloads; behaviour management.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Social life!

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

My daughter is currently in the third year of the same degree as I did! This makes me very proud. Lovely to listen to how the course has similarities to my degree ( we also had one of the same lecturers) It is excellent to see how this degree prepares student teachers for modern school life! Excellent degree course

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Exciting, memorable, life changing!
