Where are you doing now?

I am currently working as Head of MFL at a school in Essex.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals / give your career an edge?

Excellent tutors, including lots of native speakers. Very practical language skills taught, such as interpreting and translation. Also the opportunity to a study for a dual award - as well as my degree from Northumbria, I have a BA from a French university from my year abroad.

What was the best thing about your course?

Brilliant tutors, very well organised and very challenging. My year abroad was excellent.

Who inspired you the most, and why?

Dr William Smith for his passion for French culture and his knowledge about French politics. Also Angela Teixeira, for being a local girl who could speak brilliant Spanish, which is exactly what I wanted to be able to do.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now/throughout your career?

Language skills - I achieved a very high level of French and Spanish by the end of the course.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

The two-hour language tutorials and the interpreting training.

What advice would you give somebody who is thinking of studying at Northumbria?

Its an excellent university in a brilliant city - go there!

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in 3 words?

Challenging, interesting, useful
