I have had a successful 13 year career as a professional sportsperson in rugby and I now work in sports nutrition.

More recently, I have spent nearly a year working with American nutritional supplement company MusclePharm Corporation. I have been able to grow with the company working on its global expansion strategy and across a range of areas and disciplines. My background in professional sport, rugby, has given me a unique insight into sports nutrition. I am now planning to take up a role in the USA the MusclePharm Sports Science Institute.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

The ability to study and work around my career as a professional athlete.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

It was great to get the support from my lecturers and mentors, whilst being challenging doing several things at the same time, I am a firm believer that you get out what you put in. Feedback that I received was fair constructive and it really helped me to grow my experience.

How connected was your course with industry?

The course has been incredibly useful within my chosen career path and, due to the nature of the course, it would be applicable across a range of industries.

What was the best thing about your course?

Working with my tutor on my professional project and looking at different cultures and environments from an academic point of view.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

It has enabled me to comfortably do business internationally with a range of different cultures and has instilled a hunger for learning that I intend to continue with now I am in employment.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Strategic knowledge, understanding and implementation. International culture and organisational culture. The study of power and politics.

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Getting a good result due to the hard work and time that I invested in the course.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

Make sure you have adequate time to dedicate to the course you are looking to study. Immerse yourself in the study and don't do it just to get the degree, do it to add value to yourself enjoy the challenge!

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Challenging, captivating and worthwhile.
