Fiona Catherine Whiting

What are you doing now?

I am the Venue and Agency Event Executive for Off Limits Corporate Events. I run the off limits company at Farncombe estate and book activities and events for all clients ranging from leisure guests to guests like Sony, NFU, Allianz Insurance and many more. I have recently passed my probation and career progression is to run the company fully at Farncombe and use my creative knowledge to take it to the next level.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

The atmosphere -everywhere i went on campus students were smiling and laughing and tutors were very supportive from the get go!

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

The course is very much a creative course which allows each individual to flourish. In the early days the team projects were great i just wished there were more, it seemed to get very competitive towards the end and i felt pressured. All lectures were useful but we had no choice to participate in Graduate Enterprise when all the other courses  you did.

What impressed you most about our academic staff?

Their detailed knowledge and most of all their different experiences within the industry.

How connected was your course with industry?

We had past students come in and tell us where they are now. several placements NE1 NFW, Graduate Fashion Week.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/give your career an edge?

How relatable every lecture was to the industry and truthful insight.

What was the best thing about your course?

Support of the tutors.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Adobe software. Communication, time management. The Event industry

What did you enjoy most about your time at Northumbria University?

Meeting new people getting out my comfort zone.

What advice would you give somebody who is thinking of studying at Northumbria?

Just go for it. I moved 250 miles away and didn't look back!

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in 3 words?

Fantastic, Epic, a rest sort!
